KENYA NIGHT RUNNERS SEEK GOVERNMENT SUPPORT

I have always been told stories of valosi..as they are called in western province. But the stories were comfirmef when A group of naked night runners

from Homa Bay county in Nyanza
plead with the
government for recognition
of their role in keeping society
safe at night.

 

The group, which was filmed by
Citizen TV at night carrying out
their running activities, say they
play the important role in society
of scaring thieves, as well as
the residents of the county while
they are walking at night – just for
pleasure!

 

“Night running is something
very serious as we help our
community whenever there are
robbers at homes. We scare
the robbers away,” Jack
Rongo, the president of the
night runners association of
Homa Bay, said.

 

 

“What we normally do is entertain
ourselves by dancing, running and
scaring people while they are at
their homes or walking at night.
We are always crying for our
rights in the central government
just like other players,” ‘Monika’,
their governor was filmed saying.
According to Rongo, there are
22,000 night runners in Homa Bay
county.

many accuse night-runners of
practical jokes and house-
breaking.”
According to the report there are
2.6 million night runners in Kenya.
